Luca’s research interests are focused on the investigation of light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. In particular, his research aims at unveiling quantum phenomena in nanostructures, for fundamental quantum optics experiments and for quantum technology and sensing applications. Current research directions include quantum photonic devices integrating single-photon emitters, heterogeneous nanofabrication, plasmonics, disordered and aperiodic photonic crystals, and interdisciplinary research in the field of quantum biology, investigating photosynthetic light-harvesters on a chip.
Luca is recipient of the Ing. Aldo Gini Prize of Excellence, he is the Chair of the Semiconductor Physics Group of the Institute of Physics, Editor of Materials for Quantum Technology and took part to the Royal Society Pairing Scheme interacting with policymakers in Parliament.
