Bill works at the interface of Latin literature and the environmental humanities. He is broadly interested in the ways that renewed attention to plants, animals, the land, and other nonhuman bodies can enrich our appreciation of ancient literature and culture.
His PhD was titled Environmental Change in Ovid’s Poetry. It was jointly funded by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership and Trinity College, Cambridge.
His next project, The Roman Rubbish Heap, seeks to understand the significance of refuse and recycling in Latin literature. He teaches on a variety of topics in Latin literature.
