Two undergraduates from Christ’s are involved in a new musical - Palindrome - showing at the Riverside Studios in London from 8-10 September. The show has transferred from the Edinburgh Fringe after sell-out shows.

Palindrome is co-produced by 2nd year English student Katie Burge and the five-person cast includes Isaac Jackson, a 3rd year English student.

The cast and crew are all students at the University and members of Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society (CUMTS), whose previous success includes the hit musical Six.

Palindrome is set in a highland community where the local Post Office is about to close because of competition from a new packaging warehouse. Postie’s daughter Hannah, who works on the warehouse production line, experiences conflicting emotions.

It is based on a book by Madeleine Power with original music by Neve Kennedy and Jas Ratchford.

Katie said:

Palindrome is a heart-warming musical that explores a community where sending letters is becoming a thing of the past and the world is moving forwards faster than it can handle. We hope that many people will take the opportunity to see it in London.”

Isaac who plays Hannah’s father, Dr Awkward said:

“We’ve just come out of a great run of the show at the Edinburgh Fringe and can’t wait to take the show on to London, with new and improved rewrites!”

A review for Cambridge Creatives said:

“To leave a show smiling is perhaps the most important accolade, and Palindrome achieved that for everyone in the audience. A classic tale of friendship, families, and community, it’s hard to dislike a musical that is so unapologetically full of joy.”
