Christ’s will fund two new PhD studentships in Climate Change beginning in October 2025 - the Kennel-Lehman Christ’s College PhD Studentship in Climate Change and Sustainability and the Warwick-Dominey PhD Studentship in Climate Change and Net Zero.

Both studentships will support outstanding applicants in their fields for up to 4 years who are accepted for a full-time PhD at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidates will be nominated by their department or faculty and become a member of Christ’s College.

Senior Tutor, Professor Tom Monie said:

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, these studentships offer an exciting opportunity to enhance the College’s sustainability commitment. We look forward to innovative and potentially influential research from the successful awardees.”

The awards are endowed by Charles and Ellen Kennel, and by Jim Warwick and Jane Dominey with additional support from the University of Cambridge.

Professor Charles (Charlie) Kennel is a Fellow Commoner of Christ’s College and was the ninth Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Vice Chancellor of Marine Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) from 1998 to 2006. He is the originator the annual Climate Change Seminars at Christ’s which begin in 2014.

Alumnus Jim Warwick and Dr Jane Dominey are Lady Margaret Beaufort Fellows. Their funding of this studentship reflects their commitment to initiatives that tackle the challenge of global climate change.
