Geoffrey (PhD Cambridge, 1968) was elected Fellow of Christ’s in 1972, becoming Life fellow in 1997. He was the college Director of Studies in Social and Political Sciences until retirement in 2009. He was also Fellows’ Steward in the 1970s and Honorary Garden Steward from 1993 until 2019.
His research focuses on the historical and social evolution of economic institutions – especially money and capitalism. Major publications include: Strikes and Industrial Conflict (1974); Capitalism Divided? The City and Industry in Britain’s Social Development (1984); The Nature of Money (2004); Capitalism (2008, 2011); Money (2020); and journal articles in Sociology; Acta Sociology; Archives Européennes de Sociologie; Economy and Society; Cambridge Journal of Sociology; Journal of Post-Keynesian Economics.
