Christ’s appealed to me at first because it was the natural habitat of Gábor, a fellow here and a renowned expert in the exact topics I am most intrigued by - early Greek philosophy and religion.

However, I was also positively surprised at the approachability and flexibility of Carrie as Director of Studies: she does not force language and literature on those whose interests lie elsewhere, and encourages one to pursue whatever fields they are most passionate about, be it historical linguistics or art and archaeology.

All the fellows here are friendly and unpretentious; indeed Christ’s is able to conduct most supervisions in-house.

The College’s central location and financial generosity should also be noted, with a flexible grant for every student, and additional travel grants. Plus, laundry is free - a significant saving over three years! At Christ’s, one feels able to be different, not least from the typical picture of a “Cambridge student”.

Lastly, calling all cat lovers: we also have two cats!
