Christ's is the Goldilocks college - not too small, not too big, but just right. Its central location perfectly places you between neighbouring colleges, Market Square and Cambridge's best cafés. Our Classics community too is special – close-knit enough to provide genuine camaraderie, yet large enough to host regular events that other colleges simply don't match. These socials and termly quiz nights are dependable fixtures in the calendar where we come together and appreciate Classics in a lighter context amid Cambridge's academic intensity. It's for these reasons that I genuinely believe Christ's is the best college for Classics.
While I had studied Latin throughout secondary school, I had never touched ancient Greek before university. I'd always wanted to explore heroism in the original texts, and at Christ's I got to do exactly that – learning the language from scratch with brilliant supervisors and discussing Homer with the world experts. This has been such a privilege, and the support at Christ's has been exceptional; when I requested additional Latin supervisions in first year or expressed interest in Latin verse composition in second year (which has become my most cherished pursuit), the College accommodated these requests without hesitation. Thanks to Christ's, I've spent my past two summers digging at the Faculty's archaeological excavation in Italy, and have travelled to ancient sites across the Mediterranean. For someone particularly interested in literature and art like me, Christ's has provided everything I could ask for – and its supportive environment would benefit any Classicist looking to discover and develop their specific interests.
