In the centre's entrance there is an information board about Dr Yusuf Hamied, who studied Natural Sciences at Christ's from 1954 to 1957 and continued to complete his PhD in Chemistry as a graduate student here. His company, CIPLA, broke the monopoly of big pharmaceuticals and brought down the cost of medicines for diseases such as AIDS, so that they could be available to all. This short film from Live History India explains it in 5 mins, or for a more detailed documentary we recommend the award-winning film, Fire in the Blood. Dr Hamied is an Honorary Fellow of the College.
