IMPORTANT: The letter must specifically state that the meals are UK Government funded.

Only UK Government funded Free School Meals are eligible.

Some schools have their own schemes & bursary systems. Free school meals via these schemes are not eligible unless you are also eligible for UK Government-funded free school meals (see below for more detail)


If direct confirmation is not available, we can also accept documents showing either your or your guardians' eligibility for one of the following UK benefits:

  • you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit 
  • you have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190 as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Working Tax Credit run-onThis is paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400 (after tax and not including any benefits you get). This is as from 1 April 2018.This is income after tax and not including any benefits you get.
