As part of your My Cambridge Application (deadline 22 October 18:00 UK time) you will be asked to upload a passport-style photo. It will help greatly if you prepare a suitable photo that meets the criteria in advance and have it saved on the device you will use when you complete your MyCApp form.

Guidance for taking a suitable photo


Use a plain, light-coloured background

no patterns or textures

no objects or people behind you
 

Even lighting and no shadows

balanced light - no shadows on your face or behind you

it's best to use natural light, for example facing a window
 

Face in full view and plain expression

face forwards with eyes open, looking straight at the camera

plain expression, with mouth closed

include your head, shoulders and upper body in the photo

your photo should be a good likeness
 

No headwear

Unless it's for religious or medical reasons
 

Eyes fully visible

hair away from your face and eyes

no 'red eye'

take your glasses off (if you can)
 

If you need to keep your glasses on

no sunglasses or tinted glasses

your eyes must be visible without any glare or reflections
 

Do not take a photo of another photo. 

Check requirements


The photo must be:

  • clear and in focus
  • in colour
  • unaltered by filters that add textures or special effects
  • in portrait orientation
  • at least 640 pixels tall and 480 pixels wide
  • at least 25 KB and no more than 10 MB
  • a JPG, PNG or HEIC file
