Did you know that the modern game of Tiddlywinks was devised at Christ's College?
Tiddlywinks began as a Victorian parlour game in nineteeth century England, and there were quite a lot of versions of it as game publishers came out with their own versions under different names over the years.
On 16 January 1955 a group of undergraduates met at Christ's and devised the rules of the modern game, which is broadly the version played in matches and tournaments now. The students wanted to invent a sport that they could represent the university in! They were successful: the game became very popular amongst university students with as many as 37 British universities competing in the 60's for the "Silver Wink" trophy (established by HRH Prince Philip) and Tiddlywinks is still played today.
