This information is intended to supplement the generic intercollegiate guidance (Raven password required) and provide details that may be useful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if anything is unclear or if you have particular questions; tutorial@christs.cam.ac.uk

We hope that this may be useful whether you are a new or an experienced supervisor.

Thank you for supervising Christ’s students.

Practical Information and Contacts
In creating a supervision report you will be able to locate the name and CRSid of any given student’s Director of Studies (DoS) and Tutor. Details of Christ’s DoSes can be requested from the Tutorial office. If you are unsure as to which DoS you need to contact, please do not hesitate to contact the Tutorial Office (tutorial@christs.cam.ac.uk) directly.

Deadlines
Please submit your reports each term at least a week before the end of Full Term. For Full Term dates please see the University webpages. If you have not completed all supervisions by this stage you are encouraged to still submit a report stating this with your claim. You can include hours yet to come in your report to ensure payment. If you need to update the College following the final supervision you can submit a subsequent report which does not claim additional hours.

Directors of Studies will approve supervision reports within a week of the end of Full Term to ensure payments reach supervisors in the last week of December, March and June. Late submission of reports may result in payment being delayed until the end of the following Term. We may, on occasion, run supplementary payments and this will be communicated if it is to happen. Christ’s cannot make ad hoc payments.

College policies on matters such as safeguarding, fitness to study and other matters can be found here. These policies supplement the general safeguarding guidance but are not intended to impose any further requirements on you. At Christ’s our designated Safeguarding Lead is our Bursar, Michael Parsons and our Prevent lead is the Senior Tutor, Professor Tom Monie. You should contact them if you have any PREVENT or safeguarding concerns.

Room Booking
If you need to book at room for use for a supervision session (or sessions) you should utilise the online room booking system which enables members of the College and supervisors to view the availability of the various rooms during term time and subsequently book them. The system can be found here.

Further Information for Supervisors
In most cases you should already have been briefed by a Director of Studies about students’ names, contact details, any Student Support Document guidance, the number and frequency of supervisions we anticipate should be given, and the volume and the level of work we will require of the students you teach. Please do not vary from these expectations without first checking with the Director of Studies. Where the relationship is mediated through a departmental role, you may also need to consult course convenors and administrators as well as the relevant Director of Studies on some matters.

If you have any serious academic, or pastoral, concerns you should advise the College promptly so that this information can be escalated accordingly. Whilst we greatly appreciate the supportive role that supervisors play in a students experience at Cambridge, we do not expect you to manage issues normally dealt with by Directors of Studies, Tutors and the College Nurse (i.e. serious academic or pastoral/welfare concerns). Please refer such matters to the College to take forwards. Supervisors are not expected to become pastoral advisors to students. Their role is an academic one.
