This page is part of the Christ's applicants from Scotland section.
We welcome applications from students in the Scottish SQA qualification system who would like to apply for Law at Christ's. We assess the terms of each offer individually but our typical minimum conditional offer for Law for students in the scottish system is A1, A2, A2 in three Advanced Highers.
Advice for choosing Advanced Higher subjects
Law students will generally have studied an essay-based subject as one of their Advanced Highers but there is no ‘ideal’ combination of subjects and we are happy for students not doing an essay subject to apply. Successful applicants take all sorts of subjects from Mathematics and sciences, to arts and social sciences or various combinations. All of these teach skills that can be useful to the undergraduate lawyer.
A good proportion of Scottish applicants for Law take Advanced Higher English, History, a language or Mathematics. Other Advanced Higher choices that you might consider to combine with one or more of these subjects include Classical Studies, Computing Science, Economics, Geography, Mathematics of Mechanics, Modern Studies, Music, Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies, Sociology or Statistics. Please do not be at all concerned that there is not an Advanced Higher in Law, as studying Law formally before you start the degree is not needed, and not an advantage for those who take the A level.
We recommend attending our regular webinar on choosing subjects if you can, and of course, please feel free to send us an email if you have questions about your choices.
I would encourage you to go to open days (both college and uni-wide) to get a grasp of the city, the university, and what life is like in Cambridge.
Next steps
Please read our Law page thoroughly, including detailed profiles by some of our students, information about what the application process involves and resources for developing your interest and relevant skills.
As well as the Law subject meetings on Zoom in the Christ's Online Open Days (October of S5, February of S5, or September of S6), events with Law content include the annual Sixth Form Law Conference in March of S5 (you apply in November/December of S5), the Law Faculty Open Days, the University open day online or in person in July of S5, and look out for any Law masterclasses as well.
Please don't worry if your school is not able to provide support for your application to Cambridge, as we provide support directly via our ongoing support emails and events in the lead up to application, our UK application support pages and our current applicants section.
